1. Information we collect
When you use ChineseSnap, we may collect: (a) account information such as email and display name if you sign up; (b) photos you take for OCR processing; (c) vocabulary words you save; (d) device and usage information to improve the app; and (e) community posts and interactions if you choose to share them.
2. How we use your information
We use your data to provide OCR and translation services, save your vocabulary, synchronize across devices, show community content, and improve app performance. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
3. Third-party services
We use AI providers (e.g., Kimi/Moonshot) for OCR and translation, Supabase for data storage, and analytics services (Sentry, PostHog) for error tracking and product improvement. These providers process data according to their own privacy policies.
4. Your rights
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Profile page. You can also use the app anonymously without creating an account, though your data will only be stored locally.
5. Browser extension
The ChineseSnap browser extension runs on webpages you visit to let you recognize Chinese text, screenshots, video subtitles and danmu. It requests permissions to access the active tab, run content scripts, and capture screenshots only when you explicitly initiate a screenshot recognition. Words you save are synced to your ChineseSnap account via Supabase. The extension does not track your browsing history or collect page content outside of the text you choose to recognize.
6. Contact us
If you have questions about this privacy policy, please contact us through the app or via the project repository.
